SUSANNE WUEST / ACTRESS

WHY SUSANNE LOVES VEE.

VEE: Please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about where you come from and what brings you to Berlin?

WUEST: My name is Susanne Wuest, I'm working in film (as an actress). I was born and raised in Austria, and started travelling to Berlin early on. I moved there completely six years ago, since I was looking for a European city to live in which is sort of in the middle of everything and a mélange of cultures.

VEE: Why do you love Berlin and what are your favourite places to visit?

WUEST: Berlin has to be one of the most relaxing places I know. Still very affordable compared to other cities its size. You can still get lunch for 6€ whereas for that money, in London or Paris you can't even buy a toothbrush. I also love its little green spots in parks or at the water (such as the Paul Lincke Ufer in Kreuzberg).

VEE: Favourite cafes, bars and secret party spots?

WUEST: My favourite bar would be Melody Nelson close to Tostraße. And my favourite restaurant would be either 893 close to Savigny Platz or Rio Grande at Warschauer Brücke. Also Schnitzelpuff is a favourite I go to when I miss Austria. I don't go there often enough, just thinking about it...

"MY COMFORT BAG IS A VEE TOTE"

VEE: Where do you get your inspiration from?

WUEST: Most of all, from listening to people. It's that simple. Not very glamorous, I know. ;) Also indeed from travelling. There's a constant flow in new pictures and emotions when we travel and stay open to those stimulations. Of course, we could all hide behind our iPhones - and I do the same every now and then - but the world is a more interesting place with eyes and ears open.

VEE: Whats in your Vee Tote bag?

WUEST: It's interesting because it started out as a set-bag with scripts inside and everything, but it quickly became my comfort bag, too. So, there's a blanket inside, a book, a bottle of water and when I manage a break, I just grab it and escape to the next park. Therefore, I associate comfort with it.

VEE: What essential do you carry with you everyday?

WUEST: Moisturizer, Phone, more moisturizer and my passport.

VEE: Favourite Vee Tote Colour? What do you associate with this colour?

WUEST: Blue. I just love this colour. If there's anything I associate with it, it's "sky".

VEE: Working with VeeCollective – what do you love about it?

WUEST: Just everything.

VEE: How did you end up being an actress?

WUEST: I actually did it before I realized it was an exciting job. I started reading very early on and always enacted the stories I read, already as a three year old. So, when I realized that there's a whole world out there offering these, I was so relieved. I was less lonely all of a sudden. With people understanding it and with people wanting to see it. So only good things came from that discovery.

"MY VEE TOTE IS FILLED WITH THE MOST IMPORTANT AND NECESSARY THINGS"

VEE: What are recent projects?

WUEST: I've got two shows coming out - "LORE" on Amazon and "Perfume" on Netflix, both this fall. Also "Sunset" in which I have a small but beautiful part in, just premiered in Venice and got Oscar-submitted (my third film to follow that beautiful path after "Antares" and "Goodnight Mommy"). Also, I'm waiting for "18%Blind" (a UK / Bulgarian feature) to be completed and hopefully premiered at a great festival soon. So, lots of beautiful things. I'm not so fond of speaking about films I'm currently working on since I feel they are very fragile.

VEE: What's your favourite movie you played part in so far?

WUEST: Very hard to say. Every and each of them holds a special place in my life and taught me something. But I have to say that I really cherished working with Laszlo Nemes (Oscar for "Son of Saul") and Clara Royer on "Sunset". Clara (writer) and Laszlo (director) must be some of the most brilliant people I have ever met to this date and I can't express my adoration and personal love for them.

VEE: Last thing to say?

WUEST: I am at a very special and strange point in my life, finally growing into my own skin. With this comes the strong realization that we really need to accept a different level of responsibilty for what we do and the people around us. We need to take more care of each other. This world really needs it. And we can do it easily. We just need to look up every now and then and fill our lives with the most substantial things. Just as we fill our bags. With the most important and necessary ones.
